Data sources & methodology

Trust signal for users and search engines. We document where information originates — and what is still simulated.

Primary feeds

Production market data is wired through the providers below when the matching API keys are configured (see /api/health). Without keys, MotiveFX falls back to realistic sample payloads so the terminal remains usable in demo mode.

  • FinnhubLive / configured

    Equity quotes, insider / Form 4–style filings when FINNHUB_API_KEY is set.

  • CoinStats / CoinGeckoLive / configured

    Crypto market data and whale-style volume proxies (CoinStats key optional; CoinGecko fallback).

  • SharpAPILive / configured

    Primary sports odds / line board when SHARP_API_KEY is set (free: 12 req/min, DK/FD, ~60s delay). See docs/ODDS_DATA_SOURCES.md.

  • The Odds APILive / configured

    Backup sports odds when Sharp is missing, empty, or errors. Server-cached ~15 min (tunable 5–15); max 4 major sports per refresh.

  • Polymarket Gamma APILive / configured

    Primary Predictions board — public events/prices/volume (no API key). Shared ~15 min slate cache. Never uses SharpAPI or The Odds API.

  • OpenAILive / configured

    LLM layer for Why It Matters briefs and Ask Motive AI when OPENAI_API_KEY is set.

  • StripeInfrastructure

    Subscription checkout and billing (not a market feed).

  • Sharp-money / public-vs-money splitsLive / configured

    Derived lean from SharpAPI/Odds moneyline consensus (soft vs sharp books when available) — labeled derived, not true ticket splits. Demo Chiefs/Bills slips are never served.

  • Bitquery Polymarket sportsInfrastructure

    Optional enrichment (NBA/NFL/esports; cricket only if BITQUERY_CRICKET=true) when BITQUERY_API_KEY is set. Gamma remains primary for Predictions.

Demo / limited modules

These panels ship with curated sample data so you can evaluate the product UX. They are not live exchange, congressional, or sportsbook feeds. We do not claim Polygon, CBOE, Tradier, or SEC EDGAR as wired sources today.

How we use data

Feeds are normalized, timestamped, and combined with AI summarization. Motive Signal scores reflect multi-source confluence when live inputs are present — never a single headline. Informational research only; not investment, trading, or betting advice.
